Adir Abergel on Kristen Stewart’s Unplanned Undercut

11/25/2025

Actress Kristen Stewart hit the 2025 Governors Awards with a whole new look. Specifically a dramatic undercut by longtime collaborator, celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel.

The Tease connected with Abergel to unpack the look and he generously shared how it came together in the first place, the various elements of the look and more. Read on for our conversation.

The Tease: Could you first tell us what inspired the cut? It’s a pretty major change from The Academy Women’s Luncheon just a few weeks ago. Was the plan always to debut it at the Governors Awards?

Adir Abergel: The day before, we were collaborating on an incredible photo shoot, and Kristen was really feeling ready for a change. After spending the day creating together, it became clear that an undercut was the direction to go. It wasn’t something we had planned far in advance, but the inspiration struck naturally — and the Governors Awards felt like the perfect moment to debut it.

There are so many aspects to this cut. Let’s start with the undercut. It appears asymmetrical. How did you determine the shape?

Abergel: The shape was tailored to her face and overall bone structure. The pieces were organically picked, allowing them to fall in a way that felt lived-in and effortless. That approach gave the undercut its asymmetric, slightly handmade quality — intentional, but never over-worked.

Was this executed with clippers, shears?

Abergel: I began the cut with clippers to establish the foundation, then finished by personalizing the shape with my shears. I also used Virtue Healing Oil to soften the hair before the cut, and as a finisher to give look the style incredible  shine and gloss.

The bangs are so strong — micro with that one longer bit styled over the eye. What was the thinking here?

Abergel: It was really a feeling. As I worked with her natural movement and the way she carries herself, that longer piece falling over the eye just felt right — like it belonged there.

Kristen’s wearing her hair up for the awards show, tell us about this decision.

Abergel: It was our way to reveal the Kristen’s new era.
