Beachy But Goth: Justine Marjan Creates ‘The Siren Slipknot’ and ‘The Mermaid Messy Knot’ for the Christian Cowan SS27 Show

The Christian Cowan SS27 runway show was feeling pretty beachy but also goth, well the hair anyway, thanks to the show’s lead Justine Marjan.

Marjan, celebrity hairstylist and TRESemmé partner, created two distinctive styles for the runway, “The Siren Slipknot” and “The Mermaid Messy Knot.” Both blend vintage glam elements with the very of-the-moment undone texture. And crimps! Other styles featured bows and netting. Very nautical and naughty.

Get the Look: The Siren Slipknot

Marjan describes this style as “a modern take on vintage glamour, this look juxtaposes polished femininity with deconstructed texture. Soft bends, subtle crimps, and an imperfect low knot create a finish that feels both nostalgic and rebellious.”

1. Prep hair the night before by sleeping in 2 to 4 loose braids or French braids. Release and mist TRESemmé A-List Collection Dry Texturizing Spray throughout.
2. Create a center part and lightly spray face-framing sections with TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray. Using a 1-inch iron, create soft C-shaped bends around the eyes.
3. Use a flat iron through the remaining hair to create irregular waves for perfectly imperfect texture.
4. Apply TRESemmé A-List Collection Bonding Oil through the lengths and gather hair into a low ponytail.
5. Create a small loop near the ponytail base and secure to form an imperfect knot. Finish by crimping select ends and misting with TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray

Get the Look: The Messy Mermaid Knot

Of this style Marjan says, “this look contrasts sleek control with deconstructed texture. Crimped ribbon-like strands and an intentionally imperfect knot lend an undone edge to an otherwise polished silhouette.”

1. Separate a 1-inch perimeter section around the hairline. Slick the remaining hair back into a ponytail using TRESemmé Extra Hold Gel and TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray for an ultra-sleek finish.
2. Select asymmetrical strands around the face and nape, mist with hairspray, and crimp from roots to ends. Blend crimped strands into the ponytail to resemble textured ribbons.
3. Mist the ponytail with TRESemmé A-List Collection Dry Texturizing Spray and twist into an intentionally imperfect knot, securing with pins while allowing select pieces to remain loose.
4. Crimp exposed strands throughout the knot and finish with a light mist of TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray
