His path to success, however, has been from predictable—what started as a cheerleading career for the LA Clippers transformed into a thriving career in makeup artistry. Benson’s journey proves that passion and reinvention can lead to extraordinary opportunities, no matter how unconventional the journey.
After leaping into the beauty world, Benson insisted on backing his natural talent with a formal education. Determined to refine his skills and deepen his knowledge, he immersed himself in cosmetology school.
He got his big break when a friend working as a production assistant called Benson in as a last-minute replacement for a makeup artist who didn’t show up on set. His early exposure to high-profile projects gave him great experience and connections.
Through his personal experience, he can provide invaluable advice: “Stay ready, you never know when you are going to get that call.”
Benson has made a name for himself working in the entertainment industry, working alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names, such as Moses Ingram.
Along the way, Benson has established himself as a passionate advocate for diversity, not only in the makeup products used but also in the people cast and the artists behind the scenes. Benson believes in giving makeup artists of color the opportunities and recognition they deserve, while ensuring on-screen representation reflects the real world.
