If quiet luxury were a celeb it would be Keri Russell. The star of Netflix’s “The Diplomat,” among many other incredible roles, always stuns but she’s never showy about it. Case in point, the 2025 Critics Choice awards with Russell dressed in Chanel — from head to toe. Teaming with celebrity hairstylist Brian Magallones, the pair created an effortless looking updo that was red carpet perfection.
The Tease connected with Magallones, who partnered with milk_shake, and he generously shared some of the inspiration for the look and a detailed breakdown so you can recreate it.
“For the Critics Choice Awards this year, Keri’s outfit was a really cool white sequined Chanel jacket with shorts… a modern take on the classic Chanel look. Inspired by her outfit, which had a high collar, I decided to put her hair up in a low bun, but I wanted her look to be simple and clean, not hard and slicked,” said Magallones. Get the Look:
- “After showering, before blow drying her hair, I lightly misted her hair with the milk_shake incredible milk leave in treatment which really helped to detangle her hair.
- Next, I rubbed 2 drops of the milk_shake incredible serum between my palms and ran it through her hair to help prevent frizz and add shine, and it really helped to give her hair a smooth glass-like shine.
- Next, I blow dried hair to get it nice and smooth, and as I did, I misted each section with milk_shake flexible hairspray for light hold.
- The next step was to curl her hair with a large barrel curling iron, again, misting with milk_shake flexible hairspray along the way.
- Beauty tip: Anytime you put hair into a bun, always curl first with a curling iron to help mold it into the style and to prevent flyaways. It gives a much cleaner finished look.
- I then sprayed some milk_shake lifestyling dry shampoo into her hair to give it some texture, I then finger combed her hair back and secured it in a low ponytail. I applied some milk_shake lifestyling smoothing cream to the pony tail to smooth it out. Next, I formed the bun by twisting the hair around the base, pinning it into a messy bun.
