Changing Paths: Life After Injury

We often don’t think about the toll that our wellness and care services take on our technicians and providers. Who takes care of those that care for us?

The beauty industry is a very physical trade. Unless it is a slow day in the salon or spa, stylists, massage therapists, estheticians, nail techs, and makeup artists use specific techniques that require their bodies to be in constant states of physical stress. This can cause dysfunction and pain in multiple parts of the body such as carpal tunnel, pinched nerves, bursitis and the list goes on.

What we don’t take into consideration is what happens after your body goes through these types of inevitable injuries? Do you retire? What if this happens when you are young? What are your options? How do you make sure you integrate your passion into your new path?

Becca Larson shares her journey with injury and finding her new path in this week’s new podcast episode. She talks about what she did for preventative measures, what she maybe should have done, how she came to her decision and the new path she is making for herself.

Know that if you are going through something similar, you are not alone. Becca gives great tips for what you can do if you don’t want to leave the industry but have to for your own well being. Check it out!

“Communicating with people in a way that they felt safe and secure. That was a big thing that I wanted to provide for my clients was just a space of feeling safe so they can actually relax and release the tension that they need to let go of.”

“For me, if I could redo it, I would have worked on strengthening my upper body and practicing yoga and doing stretching on a regular basis. I think the big thing was it’s okay and you will figure it out. You will find the thing that makes your heart sing.”

“If you are struggling, reach out. There are so many resources that a person can use, it’s just getting there and finding the resource that is going to support you in the way that you need it.”
