Cheryl Bergamy-Rosa on Jayme Lawson’s ‘Renaissance Knot Sculpture’ Hairstyle at the ’26 Oscars

03/24/2026

“Sinners” star Jayme Lawson’s hair at the 2026 Oscars was one of the evening’s most standout styles because she and hairstylist Cheryl Bergamy-Rosa refused to play it safe.

According to Bergamy-Rosa, “The style draws inspiration from the elegance of the Harlem Renaissance while merging Old Hollywood glamour with modern sculptural techniques.” She tells The Tease, “As a celebrity hairstylist, I’m always interested in pushing classic methods forward. Instead of traditional pin curls, I created twisted pin curls and sculpted knots to build architectural movement through the hair. What makes this look even more special is that it was crafted on natural 4C hair, celebrating texture while still achieving the polished sophistication associated with that era.”

Calling the look “The Renaissance Knot Sculpture,” she says, “The goal was to create something that felt historic, luxurious, and powerful all at once almost like wearable art.”

Keep reading for the techniques and Contents Haircare (Bergamy-Rosa’s own brand) products she used for Lawson.

Get the Look:

  1. “Healthy hair is always the foundation of any great style. After shampooing and conditioning, I applied Contents Style & Go Leave-In Conditioning Treatment ($48.00) to the hair while it was still damp to lock in moisture and prep the texture.
  2. I then used the Dyson blow dryer to begin smoothing the hair while leaving some natural movement.
  3. Once the hair was fully dried, I applied Contents Skin & Scalp Conditioning Cream ($25.00) to nourish the hair while giving me the control needed to sculpt the style. From there, I began building the look by creating twisted pin curls and structured knots, carefully molding each section into place to form the final sculptural design.
  4. The conditioning cream was essential because it allowed the hair to remain hydrated, flexible, and luminous, while still holding the intricate structure of the style. The result was a look that felt elegant, timeless, and rooted in the celebration of natural 4C hair.”
