Making your own beauty products might seem difficult, but it’s a great way to ensure that your skincare and makeup doesn’t contain harmful chemicals. Plus, it can save you some money. From makeup removers to nail polish, here are six simple DIY beauty products that actually work.
Makeup Remover Pads

What you’ll need: 1 cup distilled water, 1 ½ tbsp baby shampoo, 1/8 tsp baby oil (coconut or olive oil works too!), round cotton pads (bonus points if they’re reusable!) and a small canning jar.
What to do: Mix water, shampoo and oil in a small bowl. Pour some of the mixture into the jar, place cotton pads on top and press down. Repeat until the jar is full of saturated pads. Use like normal makeup removing pads or wipes.
Charcoal Sugar Scrub

What you’ll need: 1 cup sugar, 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (or coconut!), 3 activated charcoal capsules and a storage jar.
What to do: Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until fully combined. Then, place into jar and let sit for one hour. Apply to damp skin, gently rub to exfoliate and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse and then pat skin dry.
Nail Polish

What you’ll need: 1 tsp clear dish soap, 2 tbsp Elmer’s glue, eye shadow of your choice, funnel and a nail polish bottle.
What to do: Mix dish soap, Elmer’s glue and eye shadow together. Once mixed to desired color, use funnel to pour into nail polish bottle. Apply to nails and enjoy!
Avocado Face Mask

What you’ll need: 1 tsp vitamin E oil (about 3 capsules), 1 tsp honey, 1/4 avocado.
What to do: Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Apply to dry areas for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Green Tea Facial Spray

What you’ll need: 2 cups green tea, 1 cup Aloe Vera gel, 1 cucumber, a spray bottle and 1 Vitamin E tab (optional).
What to do: Infuse the green tea in water, leaving the tea bags in for a couple minutes. Add Aloe Vera and vitamin E tab (this will preserve the life of your spray) while the liquid is still steaming. Stir until the liquid is smooth. Let the mixture cool down. Chop the cucumber, add it to the tea and let infuse for up to four hours. Remove cucumber and pour the liquid into a spray bottle. Apply like normal.
Berry Lip Stain

What you’ll need: 5 raspberries, 5 blackberries, 1 tsp olive oil and container.
What to do: Mash blackberries and raspberries in a small bowl with a spoon or fork. Add olive oil and continue mashing. Drain the liquid into container with a fork, eliminating berry chunks. Apply to lips and enjoy!
