Jasmine Walker’s start in TV and Film came from background gigs in Bob Evans commercials, Empire, and Shameless. Yet her eyes were always drawn to the hair and makeup chairs, that is where she longed to be.
Pivoting toward her goals, her first real sign she was on the right path came with an MTV pilot for JWoww. The show didn’t take off, but it gave her the confirmation she needed. She began enhancing beauty while helping clients feel confident in their own skin.
“I can stare at a face, at a hair texture, and know what looks best. I am always able to merge where they see my vision and they see it for themselves. Photo reference gives them that comfortability. If you show a photo reference that is similar to the person sitting in my chair, that is always going to help because they can actually see themselves,” Walker said.
Behind the Scenes of Mr. Throwback
Her philosophy on set is to remove ego altogether. It’s not about you. The whole team is pieces of a machine, working together to make it run smoothly. Walker wants her teammates to shine just as much as she does. This mindset has made her a trusted presence on high-profile projects, from the BeyGOOD campaign to editorial shoots.
Some of her most memorable experiences involve trusting the talent and going with the flow. Working closely on the production of Mr. Throwback with Ego Nwodim, she learned to roll with the punches and adjusted looks to what Ego saw fit.
“I got into the trailer, I’m doing Ego’s makeup, and [the cast] is talking about going to San Francisco to film with Stephen Curry. She asks me, ‘you’re coming right?’ Next thing you know, I am in San Francisco to finish and complete the project. That means a lot to know that you set that mark with your talent and your talent trusts you.”
Walker views this as a testament to the trust she builds with clients and her ability to adjust to any challenge.
Versatility and Adaptability
Her kit is both practical and versatile. From tattoo cover-ups to subtle enhancements with drugstore staples, Walker knows how to make every tool work. She can take a simple eyeliner or natural lash and will make any eye pop. For editorials, she might bring in heavier blush, but character-driven sets have their looks already set, so she is there to enhance them.
From dreaming on the sidelines to becoming a trusted hair and makeup artist, Jasmine Walker’s story is one of persistence. Her journey proves that reading the room and treating all talent as human, is just as important as skill.
