Already an icon in ballet, Misty Copeland may just be a hair icon, too. Following up the Oscars bun that couldn’t be beat, Copeland’s go-to hairstylist, Miles Jeffries, perfected the ponytail for the 2026 Met Gala.
Of late, we’re accustomed to seeing exaggeration with ponies to ensure that they stand out. Jeffries exercised control and stole the show. He tells The Tease, “For this year’s MET Gala hair, the idea was to create texture that looked like Misty had her hair in a bun and took it down. A flirty bouncy ponytail. The hair should dance!” And it did.
Keep reading for a detailed breakdown of this bouncy ponytail from Jeffries himself, including the exact OLAPLEX and Parfums de Marly products he used for the ballet legend.
Get the Look:
- “Misty prepped her hair by applying No.3PLUS Complete Repair Treatment followed by No.4 Bond Shaper Hydrating Curl Shampoo and No.5 Bond Shaper Hydrating Curl Conditioner.
- I then went in and started laying product to prepare for styling.
- I applied No.5L Moisturize & Mend Leave-In Conditioner on wet hair.
- Once I can see that it has become apart of the hair, I blot or ring out the excess. This is important because too much leave in that hasn’t been absorbed by the hair will change the formula of the products to follow.
- I started layering the stylers with No.6 Bond Smoother mid-length to ends to help control frizz.
- Next I added the No.9 Nourishing Hair Serum starting with the ends and working up the hair shaft. You want the most concentration of product on the end.
- I then blow dried and ironed to refine without making it pin straight. All throughout, layering in No.7 Bonding Oil.
- I added a little extra hair to give us enough material to have weight and structure in the ponytail. The idea was the ponytail should look like it was in a bun and Misty just took it down.
- As a final touch, I used the Parfums de Marly Valaya Hair Perfume to create a beautiful trail of fragrance as she moves and the Parfums de Marly Valaya Eau de Parfum on the back of the neck under the pony to amplify.”
