It’s been nearly thirty years since Sarah Michelle Gellar starred as Helen Shivers in the original “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” No spoilers, but she died in that film — after an iconic haircut no less.
Walking the red carpet alongside her husband, and former costar, Freddie Prinze jr., for the premiere of the 2025 film, Gellar seemed to channel her onscreen self with a modernized take on the pageant hair she wore while being crowned “Croaker Queen.” Working with frequent collaborator celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan, maybe it wasn’t a coincidence.
Marjan created a look that she describes to The Tease as “half up romantic fairy hair.” And, in an Instagram post, she mentioned being “really into long, soft separated waves for summer.” Scroll for a how-to directly from Marjan including the exact products she used for Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Get the Look:
- “Prep damp hair with TRESemmé Lamellar Gloss Cream Serum.
- Blow dry smooth with the ghd Helios Dryer.
- Add Bellami clip-in extensions.
- Use the ghd Chronos Styler to add a wave to the hair.
- Use the ghd Thin Wand to wrap tiny pieces of some of the mid lengths and ends in opposite directions.
- Separate a few strands to frame the face then gather the hair from the sides back using TRESemmé A-List Workable Hairspray on a toothbrush to smooth frizz
- Twist both sides then secure at the back of the head with an elastic, wrapping a piece of hair around to conceal.
- Finish with more of the TRESemmé A-List Workable Hairspray and shine spray.”
