Over 90% of hairdressers, hairstylists and cosmetologists are women, according to statista, yet two thirds of beauty executives are male according to Global Cosmetic Industry. It might just be us, but something about that statistic doesn’t seem correct. Slowly, strong women are changing that narrative.
On this week’s podcast we got to talk with one of those women. Carolyn Aronson, one of the only Latina female professional brand owners, understands what it is like to be surrounded by men in the room. Her advice? “Show them what you know, because that is undeniable.” She refuses to be intimidated or pushed around by others and that shows in everything that she does.
Carolyn, CEO of It’s A 10 Haircare, joined Volume Up not only to talk about being a women entrepreneur but also to discuss her brand, what it means to “be a 10” for her products, her failures along the way and her why for the industry.

“And that’s the beauty of our industry, there are so many aspects to this industry that, like many industries, if you can just find how you can add to your industry and bring something new and innovative into it, you too can live the American dream.”
“I’m a firm believer in healthy hair and when you have healthy hair, it doesn’t matter what you’re going to do to it that day, it’s going to react better. And when hair is healthier, it has its own natural elasticity, it’s bouncier. I don’t care if you’re going to flatten it like a pancake, it’s going to be the best pancake you’ve ever seen.”
“And I think that’s what I would probably say to any woman who’s probably in a man’s world is ‘There’s no reason to feel out of place and if anything, if you are being treated differently handle it with grace and just show ’em’ what you know. That’s undeniable’.”
