How to Get Betty Gilpin’s Wet Mermaid Hair from the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards

01/13/2020

GLOW Actress, Betty Gilpin is easily one of our faves from last night’s 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards thanks to hairstylist Clayton Hawkins. Wanting something effortless, the nominee’s “wet” hair was pulled back and hung delicately against her Oscar de la Renta gown. Jenna Kristina brought the glam, crafting a soft metallic eye.

Hawkins shared EXCLUSIVELY with the tease what went into creating Gilpin’s “goddess stepping straight out of the ocean” hair. Spoiler alert: mermaids are real.

Step 1

In order to achieve a wet look that doesn’t dry out in an hour, start with damp hair. Diffuse Iocks with GHD platinum blow dryer. Once the hair is dry, go in and gently wave it with GHD styling iron.

Step 2

Now the hair is ready to “wet.” Start by applying a generous amount of Oribe Surfcomber mousse to roots, and comb the hair back with a wide toothed comb. The Surfcomber mousse is the hero product.

It locks in whatever style or shape you want, all while giving off an intense shine. This is what makes the hair look wet!

Step 3

Once the roots and hairline are locked in, go in section by section. Then, generously apply Color Wow Pop and Lock High Gloss Shellac to the rest of the hair.

Step 4

Finish the look by adding more of the Surfcomber mousse to the ends to create a piecey effect. Then, spray it all with R+Co Extra Hold Hairspray to lock it in.
