12/08/2021

With the holiday season now in full swing, it’s more than likely that your clients’ calendars are already starting to fill up with holiday parties and celebrations. Whether they’re headed to a swanky office soiree, a close family gathering, or an epic New Year’s Eve rager, one thing’s for certain—they’re going to need a festive hairstyle that will keep them looking good all night long.

If you’re a stylist that’s been struggling to come up with holiday hair ideas for your clients, specifically those with textured hair — don’t fret! We asked celebrity hairstylists Monae Everett, Takisha Sturdivant-Drew, and Stephen Hudson for insight on the coolest textured hairstyles that are trending this holiday season. We’re talking sparkles, statement-making braids, and tons of volume!

Keep scrolling for their step-by-step tutorials as well as details on all the must-have Sebastian Professional products they used to create these gorgeous looks.

Rhinestone Embellished Voluminous Curls

With a client roster that includes the likes of Tia Mowry, Nia Long, and Yara Shahidi, celebrity hairstylist Monae Everett is no stranger to dreaming up gorgeous textured hairstyles for some of Hollywood’s leading ladies. Just in time for the holidays, Everett has created this beautiful curly hair look with rhinestone embellishments that is sure to win compliments at any upcoming holiday celebration. “Razzle and dazzle this holiday season with nourished and voluminous curls that will wow,” she says.

Get The Look:

To achieve this look, Everett began by using Sebastian Professional No. Breaker ($34.00) on damp hair before sectioning out the right side of her hair. She then applied Sebastian Professional Gel Forte ($18.96) to smooth the hair on the right side—layering it with Sebastian Professional Dark Oil ($48.00) to create a cornrow along the right back. To get the curls poppin’, Everett moved along the left side (where the curls will be out and free) creating 1-inch sub sections of damp hair. To add volume, she applied the Sebastian Twisted Styling Foam ($13.49) and layered it with the Sebastian Twisted Styling Cream ($18.96) to moisturize and lock in the curls.

After diffusing the curls, she added Dark Oil for shine before using a pick “to lift the curls and activate the volume” and the Sebastian Re-Shaper Hairspray ($21.40) to hold and fight any humidity. As a finishing touch, Everett added hair crystals (like these!) to make the style stand out and add “a little razzle dazzle”.

Flirty Wrapped Ponytail

Why wear a regular ponytail this holiday season, when you can wear a ponytail that makes a serious statement? This stunning hairstyle was created by celebrity hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew who regularly styles major stars like Kerry Washington and Gabrielle Union. According to Sturdivant-Drew, this bold, edgy, and flirty look is “the perfect way to show up to any party looking trendy.”

Get The Look:

To begin, Sturdivant-Drew first prepped the hair by shampooing and conditioning before using Sebastian Professional Potion 9 ($18.95) to detangle and hydrate the hair while damp. Next, she parted the hair down the middle and separated a small section of hair on either side of the head at the front. Using TSD hair extensions to add some length, she braided the extensions into the front pieces to create a long braid. Then, she smoothed down and tied the remaining hair into a low ponytail and braided the ponytail before securing more TSD hair extensions (in two different colors), to the braid with a small hair elastic.

Taking a section of the hair from the right side of the extensions, she wrapped snugly around and down the entire ponytail in a counterclockwise motion until reaching the middle. Taking another free section of the ponytail at the bottom, Sturdivant-Drew then wrapped clockwise upward around the entire ponytail until reaching the middle, making sure to leave the end of the ponytail free. To finish off the look, she used Sebastian Professional Shaper Hairspray ($21.00) and then accessorized the style with an array of sparkly clips (like these!).

Glamorous Vintage Curls

When celebs like Jackie Aina are in need of a jaw-dropping hair look, they know to call hairstylist Stephen Hudson. According to Hudson, high glamour hairstyles—like this ‘20s inspired look that he created—will be trending majorly this holiday season and are “sure to stun at your next fête.”

Get The Look:

To create this curly look, you’ll want to start with damp, towel-dried hair and use a dime-sized amount of the Sebastian Professional Dark Oil ($48.00) to nourish the hair and add body. “Be sure to emulsion the product in your hands before applying, then lightly blow dry the hair,” Hudson says. Next, section the hair into two parts—down the middle of the head all the way to the nape of the neck—and make a sub-section at the nape of the neck from ear-to-ear.  Then, blow dry all sections of the hair on low-to-medium heat until the hair is fluffy.

After that, you want to prep each section of the hair for curling by using the Sebastian Professional Shaper Zero Gravity Spray ($21.40). Taking a ½ inch curling iron or wand, twist/coil the hair around the strands, making sure to hold for 2-5 seconds depending on the hair’s thickness. “After removing the heat, make sure to hold the curl in your hand before releasing it; pin and let set before styling,” Hudson says. Once you take out the hair, be sure to coat each curl with Sebastian Professional’s Dark Oil for added protection and a beautiful finish.
