Black History Month is officially upon us! And while Black history should be celebrated every month, this time of year is the perfect opportunity to elevate and amplify the voices of Black people.
Fans of Wella Professionals will be happy to know that the beloved hair brand will be shining a light on Black stylists all month long.
Not only will Wella be sharing engaging content centered on texture education and the advancement of Black stylists, but they’ll also be hosting a scholarship contest for Black licensed salon pros. By doing so, the brand hopes to help address the disparities in resources and opportunities that have historically placed Black stylists at a major disadvantage in the hair industry.
As part of the contest, Wella will select five winners who will receive a scholarship to the Wella Professionals education course of their choice. Among the available courses, winning hairdressers have the option of selecting hair icon’s Stephen Moody’s Virtual Cut Craft course or a class in the brand’s Color Craft series, which is a prerequisite course to become a Wella Master Color Expert.
For any stylist looking to improve their styling skills and perfect their craft, this scholarship is a pretty big deal! In order to participate in the contest, stylists will need to either enter themselves or nominate someone by February 28.
The rules are fairly simple. To enter, all stylists will have to follow @wellahairusa on Instagram and post a picture or video relevant to the nominee using #WellaBlackStylistScholarship in the caption. In the post, make sure to tag and mention both @wellahairusa and your nominee (which can be you, your hairstylist, or a colleague) in your image and caption.
The contest runs from Feb. 1 to Feb 28 so be sure to get your entry in ASAP! For more information on the scholarship contest and Wella’s Black History Month initiatives, be sure to follow @wellhairusa on Instagram.
