Read on for our conversation with Streicher about how the Power C Styling Butter came to be and how she suggests fellow pros use it and more.
The Tease: The new SUN CATCHER Power C Styling Butter blurs the line between treatment and styler. What was missing from the market that inspired you to create a product that does both?
Ashley Streicher: After a lot of feedback from both stylists and salon owners, we realized there was a desire for a thicker textured paste, a product with butter-like consistency. We realized what we were missing within the SUN CATCHER Collection was a heavier, more treatment-like product for folks with thicker, course/dry, hair. Also, I am always looking for products that can have multi-uses. Developing all of my formulas with R+Co, it was important to me that they have multiple uses.
You’re known for creating effortless, lived-in hair. How does the SUN CATCHER Power C Styling Butter reflect your personal approach to hair — and what does it help you achieve for clients that other products don’t?
Streicher: This product allows people with curls to be able to air dry with a heavier SUN CATCHER formula. It can, in some instances, even elongate a curl into more of a wave, giving thicker textures that lived-in cool girl hair.
The formula combines ingredients like shea butter, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C to nourish, smooth, and protect while providing flexible hold. How involved were you in balancing performance with hair health during development?
Streicher: Very involved. It was important to make a heavier product for thicker hair that also won’t weigh hair down or make it feel greasy. The very light memory-like hold was an important piece in developing this one. I also wanted to be sure it didn’t leave air-dryers with a crunchy texture. I wanted medium hold but in a soft memory way.
More clients are embracing air-drying and lower-maintenance styling routines, but they still want polished results. How does the Power C Styling Butter support that shift in the way people are styling their hair today?
Streicher: SUN CATCHER Power C Styling Butter helps support the heat-free stylers. When air-drying, you need something in your hair to fight frizz, maintain a wave/curl, and create the perfect natural separation and texture. So this formula was really made to help support that process. It also happens to be my go-to for the perfect bouncy, hydrated blowout. With heat protection up to 450 degrees and that medium memory hold, it’s perfect for before and after a blowout!
As a hairstylist, what are some of your favorite ways to use the Power C Styling Butter? Are there any unexpected application techniques you swear by?
Streicher: With the insane heat waves we’ve been having this summer, I love to teach clients to achieve the most perfect sleek style by adding a couple pumps of SUN CATCHER Power C Styling Butter to dry/dirty hair. Next, using a flat brush or fine tooth comb, make a clean center part and slick hair back behind the ears. The hydration makes it almost a treatment for your hair, and the consistency and medium hold give it the perfect wearability.
