Celebrity Hairstylist Marc Mena Added a Secret Detail to Lily Gladstone’s ’24 Oscars Hairstyle

03/10/2024

Lily Gladstone is the first Native American to be nominated in the Best Actress category at the Academy Awards, and she/they may just walk away with the trophy this evening. For their red carpet appearance at tonight’s ’24 Oscars, Gladstone teamed up with frequent collaborator, hairstylist Marc Mena who created a glamorous, soft wave. This style is the perfect compliment to her custom Gucci gown, created in collaboration with indigenous designer Joe Big Mountain.

The importance of this moment wasn’t lost on Mena, who was set on creating a timeless look. Keep scrolling for the complete breakdown and the secret detail that Mena included to honor Gladstone’s indigenous heritage.

Get the Look:

  1. On wet hair, Marc applied Sister Sky Minkisoft Nourishing Mist from scalp to end followed by a thickening spray and heat protectant.
  2. Next, he sectioned the hair and blew out each section with a round brush.
  3. Once the hair was completely blown out, Marc applied Great Lengths Tape In Extensions throughout the entire head to create length and volume, making the hair a focal point of the look.
  4. Marc then shaped the hair with long layers to create movement, and created a side part.
  5. Next, Marc used a curling iron, wrapping each section around the iron in the same direction to achieve a soft, glamorous wave.
  6. He then applied more thickening spray and let the hair set.
  7. Once it was set, he took a large paddle brush and brushed out the waves from scalp to end, and finished with the Sister Sky Minkisoft Sleek+Shine Styler Oil.
  8. As a final touch, Marc added a secret, hidden micro braid as a nod to Lily’s indigenous heritage but also for good luck as she wore a braid for her Golden Globes and SAG Awards win this season.
