By all accounts,Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Kyle Richards, had a tough season — but you’d never know it based on her reunion look. Rocking a sleek updo, with sculptural elements by Chris Russell, Richards’ hair projected a fierceness that had been missing, as if to say she was finally done suffering fools.
Russell tells The Tease, “We wanted a clean cut polished look, moving away from the typical ‘real housewife’ look. We wanted modern and fresh, a new vibe, because that’s where she is in life.” Working with SUTRA tools and products to create the hairstyle, Russell says they ultimately landed on an updo with the bun at the crown of Richards’ head, which had the added benefit of “a lifted, snatched effect.”
Read on for the exact techniques and products Russell used.
Get the Look:
- “Knowing the look would be sleek bun, I began by applying SUTRA Heat Guard Renewal Spray through the hair. This was the perfect moment to reset the hair, bringing back shine, control, and protection before styling. I then rough dried the product in, allowing it to fully absorb and activate.
- Using the Sutra IR Infrared Thermal Brush, I smoothed the hair to create a clean, polished base. This step ensures: even texture, controlled shine and a seamless finish before pulling the hair back.
- I used the Sutra IR2 Infrared Flat Iron 1″ to refine and smooth the hairline. Detailing the hairline is what takes a sleek bun from good to great. I used a toothbrush-like tool to fine tune any fly aways and edges.
- The bun was placed at the crown of the head, with the direction of the hair guided parallel to the cheekbones. This creates: a natural lifting effect and a more sculpted, ‘snatched’ appearance.
- Working in small sections, I applied the Sutra Heat Guard Hairspray and slicked the hair back into a ponytail. Taking it section by section guarantees fewer bumps and a cleaner, tighter finish. This technique ensures: maximum smoothness, a strong hold and a flawless silhouette.
- Once secured into a ponytail, I applied SUTRA Heat Guard Hair Serum to the length and shaped the pony into a bun, adjusting until I liked the shape.
- To finish, I left the ends slightly out and structured them for added dimension. I like giving it a little personality — it keeps the look modern.”
