Emma Stone’s easy-breezy bob at the 2026 Oscars is everything. The perfect color, “Soft Auburn” by Tracey Cunningham, and just the right amount of playful movement and dream texture by Mara Roszak. We imagine that this style is going to be popping up in consultations with your clients in the coming weeks so, we asked both for the key details.
When it came to color, Cunningham told The Tease, “the inspiration really started with evolving her signature red in a way that felt fresh but still very Emma. She’s known for that beautiful auburn tone, so the goal was to refine it rather than change it. We wanted the shade to lean slightly more brownish and polished this time – something softer and richer while still keeping the warmth that suits her so well.”
To get the “Soft Auburn” shade we saw on the red carpet, Cunningham opted for Schwarzkopf Professional IGORA VIBRANCE. She says, “We built the base using a blend of 7-0 and 7-55 with a low-volume developer to keep the color gentle and glossy… Then through the ends, I layered several tonal shades, including 7-55 and warmer auburn tones, to create depth and movement so the color doesn’t look flat. That multi-tonal approach is what gives Emma’s red its richness and shine, especially under red carpet lighting.”
Below, Cunningham’s actual formula.
Get the Formula:
- Base: Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Vibrance (6 vol lotion) 7-0 + 7-55
- Ends: Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Vibrance
- 7-55 (20g) + 5-7 (5g) + 0-55 (5g) + 0-77 (5g) + 7-0 (10g) + 7-65 (5g) + 000 (10g)
- Leave tips out until the final 5 minutes, then apply with added 0-77 (5g)
When it came to the red carpet styling, Roszak says “For the Oscars, I wanted a 90’s blowout with soft movement in Emma’s bob, keeping it feeling fresh, modern, and full. The look was polished but effortless — soft volume, subtle bend, natural volume and subtly brushed through.” Keep reading for the exact products she used.
