Hairstylist Marcus Francis Shares How He Styled Kirsten Dunst’s New French Bob Using Olivia Garden Tools

09/29/2022

Fall may only just be getting started, but it seems as if the French bob is one of the season’s trending looks. Case in point: Kirsten Dunst—the actress recently debuted a fresh take on the classic Parisian cut while attending Bottega Veneta’s Spring/Summer 2023 runway show at Milan Fashion Week and we’re so obsessed with her new look.

Dunst’s newly chopped hair, which was styled in soft waves with a side part, came courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis who used all Olivia Garden tools for ultra-chic cut and style.

Speaking on the inspiration for Dunst’s major hair transformation, Francis shared, “We were so excited to debut Kirsten’s shortest haircut in 17 years for the Bottega Veneta show at Milan Fashion Week. Having just chopped 6 inches off, we decided to keep the look classic and cool to match her new chic length, creating some natural bends to frame her face.”

To create this chin-skimming cut, Francis used the Olivia Garden Cara Shears ($299.99) to create Dunst’s new shorter length. “I cut the hair into a cut point, giving the hair texture,” he explains. “I also cut the weight out of the ends to give the hair movement using a feathering method with the sheets and thinning shears in spots to make sure the cut didn’t go too triangular.”

Once the chop was complete, Francis blew her hair dry with the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Hair Dryer ($109.95) and the Olivia Garden NanoThermic Ceramic + Ion Round Thermal Brush ($19.95), “which allowed me to keep the hair smooth and close to the head in order to give the fullness to the ends we had envisioned.” Then, he used the Olivia Garden EcoHair Round Brush ($16.95) at the nape of Dunst’s neck to create a tighter hold and a smoother finish. Finally, he used the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Flat Iron ($109.95) to create small waves, mimicking natural texture by bending away from the face so the hair perfectly framed her face.
