02/17/2022

If you’re a hair lover like us, you know that New York Fashion Week is an actual goldmine for head-turning hairstyles and the best of the best hair products. Whether it’s backstage or on the actual runway, there’s never a shortage of gorgeous hair around to inspire you. I mean, it’s only to be expected when you have incredible hairstylists, like Matthew Curtis, in attendance to dream up awe-inspiring hair looks.

This season, Curtis was on hand at fashion week to create an array of hairstyles for Hardware Ldn and Flying Solo’s Fall 2022 runway shows, exclusively using Olivia Garden hair tools. Between the sleek mini braids that he created for Hardware Ldn and uber-cool twisted ponytails he crafted for Flying Solo, he definitely didn’t disappoint when it came to styling hair looks that we would all want to recreate immediately. Fortunately for all of us, we have all the details on how to achieve these exact same looks using Olivia Garden products.

Keep scrolling to see how you can get these two looks at home.

Inspired by Hardware Ldn designer Jessica Horwell’s grungy glam collection, Curtis created these effortless-chic mini-braids. “We wanted something that was edgy, sleek, and chic,” he said in a clip shared on his Instagram. “It’s quite strong from the front and a little party in the back.”

Step 1: Begin with natural hair and dry it using the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Blow Dryer ($109.95) and then a super straight center part using the Olivia Garden CarboSilk Comb ($8.95).

Step 2: Brush the top portion of the hair using the Olivia Garden Divine Care & Style Brush ($14.95) to tame any frizz or flyaways.

Step 3: Using the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Flat Iron ($109.95) straighten strands completely.

Step 4: Next, tuck hair behind both ears using the Olivia Garden Style-Up Combo Brush ($10.95) to keep in place.

Step 5: For super-straight hair that is below the shoulder, separate it into a few sections and begin twisting each piece securing the twists with an elastic. For shorter, textured hair, go through it using the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Curling Iron ($79.99) to create added waves and volume.

The Flying Solo show featured a collective of several different designers all showcasing their own bold ideas. For the runway show, Curtis opted to bring a modern twist to the classic ponytail by designing a slick twisted ponytail for many of the models to wear.
