Here’s How Celebrity Hairstylist Randy Stodghill Styled Angela Bassett’s Curls for Her Met Gala Debut

05/06/2025

Considering how much of a Hollywood icon Angela Bassett is, it’s hard to believe that she had never attended a Met Gala up until last night. Naturally, though, she made her debut on the coveted steps of the Met in style.

The award-winning actress leaned into the soiree’s “Tailored For You” dress code in a custom blue and black Burberry suit that came complete with a black hat. Personally, we were very happy to see Bassett’s gorgeous curls out in all their glory.

For the big event, her hairstylist Randy Stodghill styled soft and defined face-framing curls for the star, using an array of PHYTO products. Speaking on the inspiration for Bassett’s hairstyle, Stodghill said, “Angela is a fashionable woman with class and sophisticated style, bold and strong, a perfectly tailored match for this year’s MET theme…Dandism.”

The Tease was lucky enough to get all the details from Stodghill on how he crafted this beautiful hair look for Bassett’s Met Gala debut. Keep scrolling for the details.

Get the Look:

  1. Stodghill started by sectioning off the hair into small sections and applying the PHYTO CURLS Definition Gel-Cream, ($30.00) from the roots to the ends throughout each section in a scrunchie motion to lock in the curls.
  2. He then diffused the hair to dry, locking in frizz control.
  3. Before the hair was completely dried, he sprayed the VOLUME Volumizing Styling Spray, ($30.00) into the root to lift the hair, creating fullness.
  4. After her hair was completely dry, he applied a small amount of PRO Style Shine Wax, ($28.00) for added shine. He then went through some part of the hair with a want to clean it up and add more texture. Once the desired look was set in place, he used PRO Style Laque Soie Hairspray, ($28.00) to give it a lasting hold.
