“Abbott Elementary” creator and star Quinta Brunson turned heads at last night’s SAG Awards thanks to a classic coiffure by celebrity hairstylist and long-time collaborator Alexander Armand. Of the look Armand, who is easily one of the booked and busiest stylists working today, said he wanted to ensure she “commanded the attention she deserves.” And did she ever!
Keep scrolling for the products and steps Armand took to create this thoroughly modern take on a throwback updo.
Get the Look
- I shampooed and conditioned Quinta’s hair with Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Shampoo ($10.80) & Conditioner ($10.80) to infuse moisture, make it easier to manipulate, and give a hydrated foundation.
- I then, blow-dried Quinta’s hair with the Olivia Garden NewCycle Large Paddle Brush and the soon-to-be-released Olivia Garden SuperHP Blow Dryer. I love this blow dryer because of its high wattage, allowing maximum regulated heat and even airflow to perfectly smooth the hair while cutting down drying time.
- Next, I straightened her hair using the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion High Performance Professional Flat Iron set to 350 degrees to get just the right temperature to sleek her hair out. Then, I gathered her hair into a ponytail and created a perfect bun.
- I used Maui Moisture Flexible Hold + Coconut Milk Curl Foam Mousse ($10.80) and Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Ultra-Hold Gel (coming soon!) and applied additional heat from the NEW Olivia Garden SuperHP Blow Dryer to sleek her edges for the ponytail and manipulate her bangs, inspired by the late great Josephine Baker. The combination of products and this technique allowed me to give her hair that super sleek and frizz-free finish.
- Afterward, I styled her ponytail with an artistic bun and applied bobby pins to hold and complete the look.
