Pinterest Predicts These Hair Trends Will Rule 2023

12/28/2022

While the last few days of the year are certainly a time for reflection, it’s also a great time to start looking ahead for what’s to come in the new year. If you’re already planning your 2023 hair or in need of some hair inspo for your clients, you’ll be happy to know that Pinterest recently published its predictions of the upcoming trends for next year.

In its annual report, Pinterest Predicts, the social media platform analyzes what users are searching for to determine what trends will emerge in the new year. “This isn’t another year-end trend report,” the report states. “This is a not-yet-trending report—a window into the future, from the place where people go to plan it.” And, when it comes to forecasting these trends, Pinterest is pretty darn accurate—they’ve had an 80 percent success rate with predictions for the past three years.

So, hair lovers, take note. These hair trends are set to be everywhere next year. Ahead, take a look at what’s going to be cool in hair in 2023.

Gemini Hair

The Pinterest Predicts reports state that people will be looking to express themselves through non-traditional hair color, specifically Gemini hair, next year. Gemini hair channels the duality of the zodiac’s Gemini twins and is all about mixing two hair colors for a one-of-a-kind look. “Geminis don’t have to choose, and your hair shouldn’t have to either,” the platform shared in the report. “In 2023, two-toned tresses will take off more than ever. Gen Z and Millennials are behind the rising trend in hair color that mixes natural hues with bright blues, purples, and pinks.” The trend is already getting some buzz on Pinterest, with users looking up things like, “multi tone hair color”, “blue and black braids”, and “pink and lavender hair.”

Crown Care

Skinification (or a focus on scalp care as haircare) has been a phrase on everybody’s lips for the past few years now, but Pinterest’s findings suggest that the concept may finally become a priority in 2023. Users have been really getting into scalp care and now with more scalp-focused products on the market, they have been inspired to develop multi-step self-care routines for their scalps. According to Pinterest, searches are up for “clean scalp” and “scalp treatment”, proving that a definite root revival is happening in the hair space.

Micro Makeover

Also on the radar for 2023: all things micro and mini. Millennials and Gen Z will be feeling super short lengths like barely-there bobs more than ever. “They’ll opt for short braids and chopped bangs instead of long, luscious locks,” Pinterest reports. “In 2023, small beauty gets its big break. Farewell, so long.” The site has already seen big upticks in searches for “short braid hairstyles”, “micro bangs”, and “chopped bob haircut”.
