One thing that we always look forward to when the Venice Film Festival comes around is the glamorous hair — well, besides the actual films, of course. Every year, our favorite A-listers make their way to Venice for nearly two weeks full of red carpets, movie premieres, and stylist soirees, providing us with endless hair inspiration through it all.
This year’s 79th annual festival, which kicked off on August 30th, is shaping up to be the most dazzling one yet, hair-wise, thanks to all the eye-catching hairstyles that have already stolen the show. With stylish stars like Jodie Turner-Smith, Florence Pugh, Sydney Sweeney, and Laura Harrier (and their glam teams) bringing their hair A-game on the red carpet, is it any surprise that this year’s festival has been nothing short of a feast for the eyes?
From sculptural updos to statement ponytails , here are all the best hair looks from this year’s Venice Film Festival.
Tessa Thompson
We totally weren’t ready for this incredible choker hair tie situation that hairstylist Lacy Redway styled forTessa Thompson. According to Redaway, “A choker hair tie will be all the rage,” she wrote on Instagram, adding that a “choker hair moment” is “becoming a signature” for them. Personally, we love the cool vibes it gives to Thompson’s soft textured waves and newly dyed red hair.
Gemma Chan
Gemma Chan made quite the impact with her elegant updo and face-framing tendrils that were created by hairstylist Jenny Cho.
Tilda Swinton
All eyes were on Tilda Swinton and her fluorescent yellow highlights which she debuted on the red carpet. Her bold dye job, which came courtesy of colorist Josh Wood, made quite the statement as did her tousled fauxhawk, which was styled by hairstylist Nicholas Hardwick.
“It is always such an inspiration to work with Tilda. There is one thing for sure, the color is never dull,” Wood wrote on Instagram. “Creating a bespoke hair color with Tilda and Haider was a joy and the pinnacle of creativity. This hi vis yellow is not for the faint hearted, but does demonstrate how one can express themselves through hair color.”
Julianne Moore
Julianne Moore served major ponytail goals thanks to hairstylist Halley Brisker. Brisker swept Moore’s locks in a low ponytail that was perfectly pulled together with a chic black bow.
