The Most Standout Hair Looks From the 2020 Emmys

09/21/2020

Similar to previous award shows this year, the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards was a virtual affair due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With no traditional red carpet, no star-studded audience, and no pre-parties or after parties, the awards show both looked and felt very different from years past.  But even amid all the changes, television’s best and brightest still managed to bring the glamour, even if it was from the comfort of their homes.

With a dress code that encouraged stars to “come as you are, but make an effort”, it’s surely no surprise to anyone that we saw an array of different looks being served. Some like Regina King slayed in red carpet-worthy couture while others like Rachel Brosnahan kept it cool and cozy in chic pajamas.

Though, we have to admit that it was all of the incredible hair looks that really stole the show. From sleek and chic updos to statement-making cuts, our favorite celebs blessed us with endless hair inspiration worth obsessing over.

Here, see all of the unforgettable hair moments from television’s biggest night.

Singer H.E.R. didn’t just dazzle us all with her soul-baring performance of Prince’s “Nothing Compares to You”, but also with her super blinged-out hair look. Hairstylist Nina Monique gave the star a sleek gem-encrusted braided ponytail with swooping edges laid to perfection.

Yvonne Orji

In case you had any doubt who Yvonne Orji was rooting for on Emmy’s night, her hair said it all. Thanks to men’s grooming specialist Mickey West-Potts and hairstylist Mary Daniels, the Insecure star debuted a raised fist shaved into the side of her to pay tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Regina King

Regina King may already have won an Emmy last night for her performance in Watchmen, but her look was so good, it deserved its own award. The actress did not come to play in a brilliant blue embellished Schiaparelli gown.  Hairstylist Larry Sims made sure her curls stunned in a wispy, high bun.

Reese Witherspoon

When it comes to serving up old Hollywood glamour, almost nobody does it better than Reese Witherspoon. The star kept things classic with a deep side-part and some bouncy, side-swept waves thanks to her hairstylist Lona Maria Vigi. To create this timeless look, Vigi relied on Virtue Labs products and GHD hair tools.

Tracee Ellis Ross

For her super sleek bun, Tracee Ellis Ross relied on none other than herself to execute her glam look. The star used products from her own hair line, Pattern Beauty, to keep her curls looking their best.

Rachel Brosnahan

Rachel Brosnahan may have gone for pajama-chic with her Emmy’s ensemble, but with her award show glam, she went full-on fabulous. Hairstylist Owen Gould gave the starlet super glossy, effortless curls using Dove hair products.

Zendaya

Zendaya promised to bring it with her awards show look and the actress did not disappoint. The star looked like the queen that she is in a dramatic Christopher John Rogers gown that she paired with Bulgari jewels and a chic low bun.

It’s also worth noting that the actress made Emmy’s history last night as the youngest person (she’s 24!) to win for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her star-making performance as Rue in Euphoria. For the momentous occasion, Zendaya looked elegant as ever in a polka-dotted  custom Giorgio Armani Prive gown that she paired with a tousled updo.

Actress Laverne Cox gave us major Barbie vibes with her blond bangs and topknot combo created by hairstylist Kiyah Wright.

For her second look of the night, the actress edged things up by rocking a fierce gray curly bob.

Yara Shahidi

While Yara Shadidi’s look as whole was absolute perfection, it was definitely the hair for us! The star enlisted hairstylist Fesa Nu to create her flawless cornrows and twisted face-framing baby hairs.

Issa Rae

Bigger hair is always better as Issa Rae proved last night. Hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood gave the star a massive textured ponytail that looked good from all angles.

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington wowed us all with a brand new short cut that came courtesy of hairstylist Kim Kimble. Can she please wear a blunt bob all the time?
