Beyhive, get in formation! Just one month after announcing her new film and visual album, Black is King, Beyoncé has now blessed us all with the official trailer – and the Queen did not disappoint.
If you thought Spirit and Lemonade were visual eye candy, just wait until you feast your eyes on this one minute and 23 second-long cinematic masterpiece. From what we have seen so far, her latest creative venture will be full of stunning visuals, colorful costumes, dazzling choreography, and star-studded cameos from Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, her mother Tina Knowles, and of course, hubby Jay-Z.
Premiering July 31st on Disney+, Black is King started out as a companion piece to The Lion King: The Gift, later becoming a “labor of love” that celebrates “the breadth and beauty of Black ancestry.” Written, directed, and executively produced by the singer, Beyoncé shared on Instagram, “With this visual album, I wanted to present elements of Black history and African tradition, with a modern twist and a universal message, and what it truly means to find your self-identity and build a legacy.”
Now, you know with Bey at the helm of this project that she’s going to be serving up some truly iconic hair moments. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite hairstyles from the trailer that definitely deserve a second glance.
The Bantu Knots Braids
No one does long braids better than Bey. This Bantu knot and braids combination is just too good to ignore.
The Braided Crown
We always knew that Beyoncé was a queen and this hairstyle just proves it. With her hair done up in a braided Nefertiti crown, she looks like the epitome of African royalty.
The High Pony
She’s totally giving us Black girl magic hair goals with this high pony that is all about the texture.
The Braided Bangs
I don’t know what was more of a moment – this whole matching cow-print situation or those braided, beaded bangs.
The Box Braids
These jaw-dropping, waist-length box braids are without a doubt, flawless.
The Signature Waves
A Beyoncé visual album wouldn’t be complete without the singer’s natural waves making an appearance at least once.
