But, what is Camp?

Whether you were watching the live red-carpet coverage eagerly or saw all the buzz online afterwards, the looks from the Met Gala 2019 did nothing less than blow our minds away.

Every year, the Met Gala red carpet is different from all the rest. Seeing that this event celebrates the New York Metropolitan Museum of art, the carpet outside always has a theme corresponding with the art inside, that most stars take very seriously.

So, for a casual on-looker or watcher, the theme might have seemed confusing. Even for those of us who watch annually, “Camp: Notes of Fashion” might be confusing.

As a nod to Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay called Notes on “Camp,” instead of having celebs show up in camo and neon orange and long-john underwear, they are called to show the “love of the unnatural, of artifice and exaggeration.”

Here are some of the highlights from last night of the best hair that showed this love for exaggeration to help clear up the picture. T

Priyanka. Chopra. Jonas. Okay, putting our jealousy aside from her marriage to our first boy friend Nick Jonas, Priyanka quite literally cannot stop winning. 2019 is her year. Giving us Alice in Wonderland vibes, Priyanka was show stopping last night and the embrace of curly fro-like style was a success.

Ladies and gentlemen, ladies ?and ?gentlemen. This look is automatic, supersonic, hypnotic, funky fresh. Okay, puns aside, Ciara truly embraced the theme and her outrageous locks show it. Her afro accompanied with a slick back top and green accessories brought camp another level up… sorry, we had to.

Colors of the carpet

Kylie Jenner

Another event, another wig color(s). That’s right, our wig, hair-color-changing QUEEN had two color changes last night that literally left us breathless. Thanks to her amazing stylist @tokyostylez, she starting the night off with her purple wig to match her feather-frenzy dress and then switching to ab entirely blue light blue for the after party. ??

Mindy Kaling

Our comedy and relatable asf mama rocked the Met Gala with her Kellie-like blonde locks, with help from @marcmena. Our golden girl served the ultimate golden look and it is just breathtaking.  ✨?

2019: the year of accessorizing the sh*t out of your hair

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita has left 2019 in the dust as we are all trying to catch up to her style and beauty. With gold hair picks and an #elevated afro screams Met Gala success. This look is anything BUT a drag, simply fab.

Jenny from the block absolutely murdering this look. Nothing like a little bit of diamonds to accentuate the beauty that is J-Lo. Her shine is just too beautiful to look away from.

Celine Dion

Absolutely breath taking and heart-stopping, our hearts nearly stopped going on. Our spirit animal and ultimate diva embraced the theme and accessorizing and brought it all to another level.

Let’s hear it for the boys!

Billy Porter

I’m sorry, WHAT! Is this the real life, or is this just fantasy? This angelic and simply magical look was SLAYED by Billy and apparently took six, that’s right, SIX weeks to accomplish this creative and show-stopping look. Go. OFF!
