Football player and fashion god Odell Beckham Jr., aka OBJ, has been known to experiment with his hair. Until very recently though he’s been sporting a fairly traditional, short cut with faded sides. That all changed yesterday when the Baltimore Ravens posted a picture to their Instagram in which his hair is fully purple. Not exactly pastel, definitely enough to pop against his jersey. Naturally we needed to know everything.
OBJ’s cut came courtesy of long-time barber @work__of__art. The eye-catching (maybe even game-stopping, if you’re into sports) color was the work of hair colorist Maggie Phan. The Tease linked up with Phan via Instagram DM for the details.
The Inspo
“For Odelle we wanted to do something to reflect his current team which is the Ravens,” explained Phan on OBJ’s latest brush with vivid color. “So naturally purple is what we gravitated towards and it turned out so amazing and is easy for him to maintain and play with different shades of purple.”
She generously provided us with her exact steps in creating this custom color using Schwarzkopf’s BLONDME and Chroma ID products. Phan is a member of the Schwarzkopf Professional Artistic Team, providing creative direction for the much-talked-about BLONDME x Barbie campaign.
Get the Look:
- Fully saturate hair with the new BLONDME precision plus on the scalp lightener with half 7 and half 20 volume for 45 minutes, insulate with saran wrap.
- Shampoo with BLONDME All Blondes and throughly dry hair.
- Apply Chroma ID 9,5-1 with a dash of 8-19 and a dash of purple, add until desired tone is achieved visually. How it appears is how it will apply.
- Let sit for 20 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
