How to Help End Human Trafficking with Wella Education & Hairdressers at Heart

01/09/2020

We don’t usually think of human trafficking as a common occurrence. However, it happens more often than you think. And, surprisingly, salons and spas are the #1 venue.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month and Wella Education and Hairdressers at Heart are doing their part to help put a stop to what’s been described as a $150 billion industry. Through the hashtag #HairdressersAgainstHumanTrafficking, salon professionals can learn more about the problem and how to identify potential victims.

A huge supporter of this initiative is activist and hairstylist, Haley Garber. Garber reiterates educating salon pros about what to look for and what to do next is key.

If you recognize these signs in your chair, it’s important to speak up and report your suspicions. You can do so by contacting your local police department or by making a call to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

Join the movement by spreading the word on social media using #HairdressersAgainstHumanTrafficking. You can also make a donation through the Polaris Project.

If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text HELP to 233733.
