In fact, their salon trainers regularly stay updated on the coolest prom, wedding, and formal hairstyles and make sure to deliver in-person or virtual education to the rest of the stylists on their team to keep them current on all the latest trends.

To get the scoop on the biggest special occasion hair trends this season, The Tease reached out to master updo artist and JCPenney Salon Manager Ally Ventura. Here, she breaks down three eye-catching looks—spanning updos and curls—that are guaranteed to give your client all the compliments at their next big event.

Loose Braided Chignon Bun

For clients that want to look pretty and polished at any of their upcoming festivities, Ventura says that you can’t go wrong with a loosely braided chignon bun. Thanks to the addition of a perfectly-placed bohemian braid, a classic chignon bun is easily elevated to a chic and romantic style that can work for a variety of occasions. According to Ventura, this stunning updo is most ideal for weddings or any formal event where you want to give off an effortless, sophisticated vibe.

Loose Curls with Accessories

Hair accessories were one of the biggest standout trends at this year’s Met Gala with many celebrities like Eiza Gonzalez, Ayo Edeibiri, La La Anthony and Kylie Jenner sporting floral hairpieces and subtle hair bows. According to Ventura, hair accessories—particularly those of the floral variety—are expected to be everywhere this season. She adds that they are the perfect complement to classic Old Hollywood-style curls, as the style above, which features loose, cascading curls adorned with a silver tree branch accessory, proves. “The combination of soft curls and delicate accessories adds a touch of femininity and sophistication to any look,” says Ventura. She recommends that clients opt for this gorgeous look for special occasions in which they’re wearing a strapless dress, so their hair can lay across their shoulders and really shine.

Twisted Bun with Face Frames

While buns always tend to reign supreme for formal events, Ventura says that this twisted bun with face frames offers a more modern take on the classic bun. The beauty of this look is that it meshes both bohemian and minimalist styles, so your clients can get the structured elegance of a bun while at the same time getting that more relaxed, romantic vibe due to the soft, face-framing tendrils. “It’s perfect for both casual and semi-formal occasions, and for the client who likes their hair mostly out of their face or struggles with greasiness,” Ventura adds.
