Meet Lady Gaga’s Stylist: Frederic Aspiras – The Second Asian-American Oscar-Nominated Hairstylist

03/11/2022

This week on Volume Up by The Tease, we had one of our most iconic guests to date. Frederic Aspiras! Master wigmaker and hairstylist Frederic has earned his reputation as one of the leading artists in the beauty industry. Five years after his move to Los Angeles, Frederic was introduced to Lady Gaga and Frederic instantly became Gaga’s go-to for all things hair. Frederic has worked exclusively with Gaga since November 2009, creating some of today’s most memorable hair looks. Frederic’s work has been featured in several major publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Allure, L’uomo Vogue, Billboard and Parade.

Frederic joined Volume Up to talk about EVERYTHING. He talked about his journey and how he started to where he is today. We dove into his work with Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga and most recently House of Gucci. Have you ever wondered about some of the iconic looks that Lady Gaga has worn (including the piss-yellow wig)? Well, you are in luck because Frederic gives us the rundown on how some of those looks were created as well as what his favorite looks are.

Frederic touched on his excitement for his team for being nominated in the Makeup and Hairstyling category at the Oscars for House of Gucci. Frederic explained what it means to be the second Asian-American to be nominated for the category and what he is doing to amplify Asian American voices as well as honor his mother.

“I needed to continue to be who I am and honoring my mom’s story and this turned out to be my love letter to her.”

“I never thought I’d be doing this and here I am as an Oscar nominee. I’m the second Asian American to ever be nominated and the first Asian hairdresser to be nominated ever in the history of Oscars.”

“Be nice. Be nice to everyone. I’m talking from the craft service person to the PAs because the PAs end up becoming what? Producers! That’s the key to this business. This industry is built from people working from the ground up and you never know.”
