JCPenney Salon Master Designer Kyla Ziegler loves working with fashion colors. And, honestly, when they look this good, who can blame her?

If you want to take on the color blocking technique for one of your upcoming clients, you’re in luck. Kyla generously broke down exactly how she created this eye-catching style. Keep scrolling for more.

Products Used:

Matrix SoColor Cult in Red Hot Red, Bubblegum Pink and Fuchsia Flamenco Fuchsia.

Get the Look:

  1. Section
    • Divide hair into 4 quadrants
    • “The sectioning is going to be the most important part and then to me vivid colors is small sectioning when you’re applying the color because because you want to fully saturate it. Otherwise, you might have little spots where the color doesn’t soak in.”
  2. Apply First Color to Diagonal Sections
    • Kyla opted for a custom mix of SoColor Cult in Bubblegum Pink and Flamenco Fuchsia and applied to a front and opposite back quadrant.
  3. Apply Second Color to Opposite Diagonal Sections
    • “With the red, because I’m shifting it so much, I knew that if I got pink where the red’s supposed to go, it would still cover. But the red, I don’t want to get on the pink because it will… So instead of doing the perimeter, I’m just going up the head and saturating it throughout instead of doing the whole outside part.”
  4. Let Process
    • Process for 20 minutes at room temperature
  5. Rinse
  6. Shampoo and Condition
  7. Style
    • Kyla swears by OLAPLEX No.6 and OLAPLEX No.7 and applied to her clients’ damp hair before blowdrying with a round brush.
