We have a love/hate relationship with our hot tools. No shame in eyeing up a big barreled curling iron or getting hot and heavy with a ceramic straightener. Heck, we even admit to a 450 degree fling with a crimper. But we’ve been burned before, which is why we’re all heart eye emoji over this breath of fresh hair: a curling iron that *doesn’t use heat.* Yup, you read that correctly.

If Dyson’s hair dryers got the company’s foot in the door of the beauty industry, then the release of their new Airwrap hair styler is kicking down the proverbial door.

Most of us know Dyson for their vacuums, public bathroom hand dryers, and those weird bladeless fans—not for their backstage badassery at #NYFW. But Dyson is not here to play. Did you see their #NYFW looks for Opening Ceremony?!

Sir James Dyson, company founder and actual British knight, demo’d his invention in NYC and shared the deets.

“We have been obsessively manipulating airflow for more than 25 years. It is one of our core expertise. Harnessing the power of Dyson’s digital motor, we have engineered a truly unique styling tool preventing extreme heat damage when styling. I’m immensely proud of what our engineers have achieved.” – Sir J.D.

A seriously powerful motor eliminates the need for extreme heat. (What, like it’s hard?) Using the Coanda effect, aka science that literally bends air, hair attaches itself to the tool and holds a curl. As if that didn’t already sound futuristic, this beauty tool even looks like a lightsaber.

If you love a good air dry but hate waiting—and also have a spare five hundo in pocket change—you’re gonna want to add this one to your morning routine.

We can’t imagine parting with our tried and true hot tools, but we do hope this disruptive invention keeps inspiring our fave styling and haircare companies to keep innovating.
