The Practical Element That Inspired ‘Wuthering Heights’ Director Emerald Fennell’s World Premiere Hairstyle

01/29/2026

Celebrity hairstylist Sami Knight and filmmaker-writer-actress Emerald Fennell go way back, and with that history there’s mutual admiration and trust — key for any successful collaboration. Knight explains, “I first met Emerald in 2012, she was clearly a star from the moment we met. We have a shared love of glamour, camp, excess, and fun. I just adore her.”

When it came to settle on the hairstyle Fennell would wear to the world premiere of her new film, “Wuthering Heights,” Knight says it was something of a natural evolution. Over the progression of the press run he tells The Tease, “We just loved the way Em’s hair looked pulled out straight, so glossy, soft and healthy. I think there was a push just to show that off, and to compliment the incredible structure of the jacket for the premiere look. That columnal shock of glossy hair really echoed the satin skirt also.”

Knowing what the night would actually demand of Fennell, as the director, Knight continues, “I wanted to make sure some of the hair was pulled back, just to give her range of movement for chatting to people, and have full view of her face for photos. Sometimes a little practical element can really drive the direction.” The result? A look that was equal parts powerful and elegant.

Read on for a breakdown of the style Knight created with the exact products used.

Get the Look:

  1. “To start I used the Kérastase Résistance Thérapiste Hair Serum on damp hair through the mids and ends and rough dried until almost dry. Then, going back in with my round brush, pulling it out, with just a little shape through the ends so not to look too pin straight.
  2. Next, through the front sections, working around the part, I took small slices and affixed them behind the ear with L’Oréal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray. I used a flat clip just to hold this while it dried. I did the same on both sides, reserving a small lock in the front for a little face framing.
  3. Once dry, I added just a touch of the Kérastase Gloss Absolu Glaze Drops with my hands over the top of the hair for softness and mega shine. A simple style elevated for the ultimate stage of a red carpet premiere!”
