Rena Calhoun Paid Homage to 90s Leading Ladies With Hunter Schafer’s ’25 Emmys Hairstyle

09/15/2025

Famous for her future-forward looks, whether as “Euphoria’s” Jules or in modeling campaigns, Hunter Schafer fully flipped the script at the 2025 Emmys, looking like she’d been transported from the past.

Longtime collaborator, celebrity hairstylist, Rena Calhoun explains that was the point. “This look was about capturing that ingénue energy, young leading actress, but with the kind of polish that feels straight out of the 90s. We wanted the hair to feel effortless, while still keeping it really sleek and sophisticated. Think: shiny, healthy, and understated in the chicest way.”

To achieve the look, referencing a time before celebs strategized with entire teams before hitting a premiere, Calhoun went method. “We kept it super minimal. A smooth blowout with a deep side part gives instant drama, but the ends still have that little bend. I tucked one side behind the ear to show off the earring and neckline.”

Read on for the detailed breakdown featuring the exact products Calhoun used.

Get the Look:

  1. “To get this look, I started with clean, towel-dried hair and misted Virtue Labs Volumizing Primer at the root.
  2. I blow-dried with a round brush, over directing the hair forward around the face to build in that soft frame.
  3. Once dry, I made the deep side part and used a 2in curling iron to do a classic roller set.
  4. Once the rollers set came out, I smoothed a touch of RŌZ Santa Lucia Hair Oil through the mid-lengths and ends and tucked the heavier side behind the ear.
  5. A little Oribe Superfine Strong hairspray was all it needed to lock it in while still keeping movement.”

Of the finished look, Calhoun adds, “It’s simple, chic, and a little nostalgic, exactly that young, 90s leading-lady glamour we wanted.” Us, too.
