Oscars first-timer Mckenna Grace was giving fairytale princess vibes on this year’s red carpet. Styled by celebrity hairstylist Sami Knight, Grace’s look was basically the perfect updo — dreamy without being delicate.
“Usually I have one question when getting someone ready for the red carpet, up or down.
McKenna had opted for up, something she doesn’t usually go for. So I wanted to really go for it, and give her the updo of her dreams,” Knight tells The Tease.
He continues, “The outfit was so spectacular, and dreamy, I thought the hair should reflect that. Rather than pull the hair slick, I left a little softness around the face with her bangs, and then really gently wound the hair up into multiple chignons almost like a basket of beautiful flowers, leaving a few of the tails out like tendrils, and leaves of those blooms. A princess updo, for a red carpet princess.”
Read on for the steps Sami Knight took to create this look, including the exact milk_shake styling products.
Get the Look:
- The hair was prepped with milk_shake lifestyling Blow-Dry Primer through the mid-lengths and ends to create softness and manageability. At the roots, milk_shake lifestyling Volumizing Mousse was applied to build lift and provide structure for teasing.
- To add grip and fullness, milk_shake lifestyling Powder Pop was worked into the roots, helping create the support needed to hold the updo while maintaining movement.
- The hair was gathered into four ponytails at the back of the head while keeping the front pieces softly tousled off the face. Each section was then twisted into a series of buns and knots and pinned at the base, creating a modern updo that felt elegant without looking overly formal or dated.
- The look was sealed with milk_shake lifestyling Extra Strong Hairspray to ensure long-lasting hold. A final mist of milk_shake lifestyling Let It Shine added subtle gloss and dimension so the style catches the light beautifully on the red carpet.
