Ashanti Lation on Styling Tems For Her Surprise Bieberchella Moment

04/21/2026

For Nigerian superstar Tems’ surprise appearance at Justin Bieber’s Coachella weekend 1 set (Bieberchella if you will), the hair design was effortless, luxurious movement, soft, cascading curls with a sleek, sculpted finish that feels both timeless and modern.

Celebrity hairstylist, and Tems’ go-to, Ashanti Lation created the look, using As I Am products for a flawless foundation. Lation tells The Tease she wanted, “Sleek, flowing curls with radiant shine and soft movement, effortless, elevated, and made to command the stage.”

Read on for a detailed breakdown of the hairstyle, directly from Lation herself.

Get the Look:

  1. “I started by cleansing and conditioning the hair with As I Am Coconut CoWash, which gently removes buildup while maintaining moisture. This step keeps the hair soft, manageable, and perfectly prepped for styling.
  2. Next, I applied As I Am Rice Water throughout the hair to help strengthen the strands and improve elasticity. This allows the hair to hold the style while maintaining a healthy, resilient feel.
  3. I layered in As I Am Leave-In Conditioner to detangle and create a smooth, hydrated base. This step ensures the hair remains silky and protected before heat styling while enhancing overall shine.
  4. I blow-dried the hair smooth, then used a curling iron to create soft, flowing curls. I focused on direction and placement to frame her face and give the style that effortless, polished feel.
  5. To complete the look, I lightly separated the curls and refined the front pieces to create that signature soft glam silhouette, sleek at the top with movement through the ends.”
