Barb Thompson Does Magic, Brings the Beach to the Golden Globes With Justine Lupe’s Hairstyle

01/11/2026

“Nobody Wants This” star, Justine Lupe hit the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet with a hairstyle that EVERYONE is going to want. Longtime collaborator, celebrity hairstylist, Barb Thompson drew inspiration from the beach for lupe’s look, creating a style that felt California cool with the perfect texture and to-die-for length using BELLAMI 22’’ Silk Seam extensions in “Golden Hour Blonde Balayage”.

Thompson says the extensions were key to the look and notes that she loves the BELLAMI Silk Seam Extensions because “they’re super slim at the root but still give tons of volume throughout the length, without weighing the hair down.”

Keep reading for a breakdown on how Thompson prepped the extensions pre-event and the exact technique and styling products used for Justine Lupe’s ultimate red carpet look.

Get the Look:

  1. To prep, Barb Thompson double-shampooed Lupe’s 22” BELLAMI Silk Seam extensions in “Golden Hour Blonde Balayage”. After washing, she combed them out, gently scrunched them with a curl-safe microfiber towel to avoid any frizz, and let them fully air-dry in the sun for two days leading up to the carpet.
  2. For day-of, Lupe came in with clean, air-dried hair. Thompson re-wet her hair with water, combed it through with a wide-tooth comb, and used dentless clips at her hairline to encourage her natural wave.
  3. In the back, Thompson prepped her slightly damp hair with RŌZ Hair Milk Serum, RŌZ Santa Lucia Styling Oil, and R&Co BLEU Rebounce Natural Texture and Curl Defining Cream, to really give texture and shine before going in with a diffuser.
  4. Once her hair was dry, Thompson went through and enhanced her natural curl pattern layer by layer and alternated between a 1 inch curling iron and a three-prong barrel iron to really get that “just walked off the beach” vibe. The goal was to mimic her natural texture while layering in each extension. Barb wanted to highlight the length with this look, so she only did a very light trim on the corners and then she used RŌZ Air Thickening Spray on her dry hair to redefine texture without compromising volume.
    • While Lupe’s hair is naturally thick and long, Thompson felt extensions were key to adding the extra volume and length needed to fully complete this look.
  5. Lastly, Thompson sprayed a little Living Proof Dry Shampoo at the roots to keep things feeling lived-in, and went in with California Born Days of Dirt for that last hit of matte, natural, and undone texture. And that was the look. She’s tousled, she’s effortless, she’s beachy.
