If you’re a hairstylist that specializes in extensions, you’ll be very happy about this recent news from our friends at Beauty Industry Group (BIG). The beloved global extensions company just announced that it has joined forces with CombLine, a revolutionary hair-on-hair enhancement system, to deliver groundbreaking solutions for thinning hair. The innovative technique is set to be incorporated across two brands with the BIG portfolio: Bellami and hairtalk.

“As a leader in the hair extensions industry, we are committed to driving innovation across multiple facets of the business,” said Brandon Hutchins, President of Professional Brands at Beauty Industry Group. “Joining forces with CombLine is a natural extension of that commitment. The premium professional hair extensions from hairtalk and Bellami, integrated with the CombLine method, will deliver unique, innovative results that will elevate stylists’ business and increase revenue behind the chair.”

So what exactly makes the CombLine method so incredible for extension artists and their clients? There are a number of benefits including:

  • Seamless: the fusion of natural hair with the extensions is unique and creates undetectable, flawless results.
  • Versatile: designed for thickening, lengthening, or adding color, the extensions using this method can be applied to the fringe, top, sides, and crown.
  • Comfortable: the extensions are gentler to sleep on compared to other application methods, as the CombLine method uses medical-grade adhesive instead of bulkier application points like beads
  • Lightweight: CombLine application separates the bonds into individual hairs creating extremely lightweight seamless bonds
  • Ideal for Thinning Hair: this hair-on-hair attachment technique places less weight on the scalp compared to a full weft, and it restricts the extensions from pulling at natural strands.

“Education is at the forefront of our business,” says Mark Hateley, Co-Founder of CombLine. “CombLine Hair Enhancement Application is a unique and innovative product that requires the highest calibre of education. The alliance with Beauty Industry Group was an easy choice as we share the same focus and commitment to providing stylists with a premium level of product education and support. The CombLine Application is essential for every salon and stylist alike, creating the opportunity to increase revenue by adding a new service that is well suited to many of their existing clients, as well as potential customers.”

To learn more about the CombLine method, The Tease tapped hairtalk Master Educator Hadeel Khaireddin to spill all the details about the innovative extension technique—including how the installation process works and why stylists should take the time to learn it. Keep scrolling for her insights.

The Tease: What makes CombLine such a great way to apply extensions for thinning hair?

Hadeel Khaireddin: CombLine is perfect for hybrid applications where traditional extensions cannot be placed (i.e the hairline, crown, etc.). Since it has a near invisible attachment, it is also well utilized for creating color effects!

Can you provide a step-by-step breakdown of how you install extensions using the CombLine technique?

Khaireddin: Take any extensions from any method, making sure it is clarified, blow dried, flat ironed, and placed in the hair clip. Take scissors to cut off the attachment fully flush against the stop of the hair clip to create a straight section. On twice clarified and blow dried hair, take a section of hair that fills the shield without over directing the hair, making sure the subsection is at natural fall.

With your dominant hand, swiftly grab a section of hair which is slightly less dense than the subsection of natural hair (approximately 1-1.5 prongs on hair clip). Switch hair to non-dominant hand about 4 inches down and begin to fan base of hair, then switch hair back to dominant hand. With your non-dominant hand, place two fingers behind the subsection of natural hair, ring finger above hair to anchor, and thumb to guide. Lightly tap the extension hair to the clip and gently guide down to just below the top line on the shield. Now, follow the 5-step technique:

  1. COMB as many times as needed to incorporate the hair.
  2. With the glue pin towards you, GLUE ONCE starting from the bottom line of the shield, making sure to go above the top line of the shield.
  3. COMB one time using the full base of the comb to secure the hair
  4. GLUE ONCE from bottom line to above top line to fully secure and encase the hair.
  5. BRUSH from the bottom up as many times as needed to remove excess glue. DO NOT SEPARATE BOND

Can you share any pro tips for the CombLine application process to ensure the best results?

Khaireddin: 1) Follow every step and don’t cut corners! 2) Using the dark glue on lighter bases can create a great shadow root effect. 3) Do not use more hair than the client’s natural density.

How long can a CombLine application last?

Khaireddin: 4-8 weeks and similar to a lash extension, it is created to shed over time with scheduled fills.

In your opinion, why should more pros consider learning the CombLine application technique?

Khaireddin: CombLine is a solution for many clients who may have thinning areas in conspicuous areas that need filling, as well as for clients who wear any method of extensions and are wanting coverage and fullness in areas that extensions can’t normally be placed. CombLine is also a wonderful answer for clients who would love to have color effects without a chemical service, with less time, and more profits behind the chair for the hair artist!
