“A great blowout is a series of small decisions made well. Section by section, pass by pass — building tension, shape, movement, and shine until the hair starts responding exactly the way you envisioned,” explains Sam Villa ArTeam Member, Adrian Sandoval. Watch Sandoval transform hair in this blowout timelapse below, proof that the process is just as important as the finish.
Prep:
Apply heat protectant/mousse at roots and smoothing cream to mid-ends. Blow dry/blast dry hair until 70–80% dry with a Sam Villa Pro Light Ionic Blow Dryer.
Brush and Sectioning:
Use a larger round brush such as a Sam Villa Signature Series Thermal Round Brush – Large and work in sections the same size or slightly smaller than the brush. Place the brush under the section at the base and point dryer away from roots to smooth the cuticle. Pull with tension while rotating the brush and overdirect upward for on base placement (max volume).
Rollers:
After each section is finished, place a roller in with on base placement. Secure with Sam Villa Dry Sectioning Clips and let cool to lock in volume. The longer the hair, the bigger the roller. For the crown section, rollers should be on base for lift. Sides sections half off base away from face, and back sections horizontal half off base.
Styling:
When hair is completely dry, remove rollers gently and brush out with fingers or a paddle brush before applying a light hairspray.
“A great blowout is based on technique that yields predictable long-lasting results. Each decision you make while blow drying contributes to the end result,” adds Sandoval.
