Bridal Hairstyles We’re Loving For Fall 2020

10/09/2020

It’s a fact: COVID put a slow on this year’s wedding season. But, it definitely wasn’t a full stop. Between Zoom ceremonies and microweddings, brides have gotten creative with how they’re getting hitched in 2020. As a result, bridal hair is still in demand for stylists across the country!

After getting engaged in September, I couldn’t help but search #bridalhair on Instagram and revisit my HMU Pinterest boards. Beyond the traditional Hollywood waves and updos, there were a few styles that caught my eye. For clients still heading full speed into married life, bust out these looks on your next consultation.

Maximum Texture

First is a style that screams boudoir. It’s sexy, feminine and would look as perfect in those getting-ready shots as it does at the altar.  With a similar sort of contrast to the multi-braids trend that’s all over IG, this look gets its drama from the combination of twists and turns within it. Pull small pieces out of each section to keep the airy, magical feel. Plus, do double duty on each sub-style you work in, to be sure it stays in place.

Va-Va-Volume

After doing my research, I already have my heart set on wedding day extensions. For brides with thinner hair like mine, a wedding may be the only time they’re willing to invest in their style to this extent. This model wore two bundles of Kurlgenics 22” clip-ins for their bridal hair style. The increased fullness from extensions will maximize any style, but especially these fluffed curls with an accent braid and accessory. Remember, selling your client on additional products or services is worth the conversation if it makes their hair look “wow” instead of “wah wah.”

Undone Chignon

If any bride says they don’t feel like a hot mess right now, they’re lying. Luckily, this bridal style is a hot and messy match that will make them feel slightly more put together, despite the constant chaos. The volume at this client’s crown is the true show stopper. With a similar “sleeping princess” vibe to the first style, this look pairs elegance with undone ease. The extra clean and secure chignon at the nape balances the gentle twists, while the face frame adds a more approachable touch than a standard updo.

Classic & Coiffed

This next bridal hair style is for those with that Cinderella-style vision. I’m talking princess waist, full train, maybe even a tiara! To create that fairytale hair style they’re looking for, aim to create something smooth and secure. Where wispy edges around the face and nape add movement to other trending looks, this one is all about being buttoned up. Not a hair out of place –– literally! To create contrast on this quintessential style, consider a side part. The distribution of hair will give you a larger section on one side to max out with volume, while the other lays flat flat for a polished finish.

Subtle & Soft

Finally, the look that speaks most to 2020 bride vibes is one that says simply: “F*ck it. We’re doing this.” Not too prim or proper, just a look with enough styling to say “Today is different from the last hundred I’ve spent on my couch.” It’s relaxed, but still beautiful. Gentle mermaid waves create a softer touch than the traditional Hollywood style. Add in an accessory like this model’s pearl headband to accent their bridal jewelry, and the bridal hair becomes just enough to suit the special day! An easy style for brides on a budget, all it takes to rock this look is some killer hold to keep waves in place.
