The Tease: How can using OLAPLEX in the salon help grow a stylist’s business and clientele?
Chad Kenyon: It’s so simple and easy to build clientele and gain referrals by using OLAPLEX products (pro & retail)! Clients give me, their friends, coworkers, and even the lady that walked up to a client in a restaurant asking “who does your hair color,” rave reviews of their hair’s strong integrity and outstanding color results. And I ask myself, did this happen before OLAPLEX? To some extent, yes. But not at this current OLAPLEX level! I always say there’s a before, and an after with OLAPLEX. It literally changed the way my clients look and feel. They are confident and radiant, and it helps keep me booked and busy!
What are some different ways that you put OLAPLEX pro services to work in your salon and how have these methods helped you increase your profits?
Kenyon: I use OLAPLEX N°1 Bond Multiplier in all my color and lightener formulas because I know with certainty that any formula without OLAPLEX N°1 Bond Multiplier is a mediocre formula. For stylists that are unsure where to start with offering OLAPLEX as an add-on service, what OLAPLEX treatments do you recommend focusing on first?
Kenyon: One of the many things I love about being a hair artist is seeing how all of us stylists do things differently and uniquely. I personally use OLAPLEX N°1 Bond Multiplier in every formula I mix. I don’t charge extra for that, because one bottle lasts so long, and yet does oh so much! I will charge individually for the OLAPLEX Stand-Alone Treatment, OLAPLEX Broad Spectrum Chelating Treatment, and OLAPLEX 4-in-1 Moisture Mask Treatments.
How do you provide clients with a proper recommendation on how best to use OLAPLEX products for lasting results?
Kenyon: The first thing to do for all clients upon arrival is a consultation. That even goes for clients I’ve been doing for many years. In this consultation, I first assess the hair thoroughly so I know what’s happened with the hair since I last saw them. Then, I ask how they feel about their hair color, hair integrity, etc. Next, I prescribe them the OLAPLEX treatments and take-home products they’ll need to nurture their hair. This will give them maximum quality, and long-lasting results.
What factors should stylists consider when deciding how much to charge for adding on an OLAPLEX service to a client’s ticket?
Kenyon: Our time is valuable. For me, time spent is the first factor I’m considering when deciding my add-on rates.
For stylists wanting to increase their earnings by using OLAPLEX on every client, how do you suggest they go about using the pro services with clients who don’t want a chemical service?
Kenyon: For those hair pros just starting to use OLAPLEX, I recommend telling the clients what they need and taking it from there regarding add-on pricing. I am, gratefully, at a point in my career where I am able to tell my clients what they need and what I am going to do to address their needs. For example, when a client comes in with hard water and heavy metal build-up, I tell them directly that I’m going to do the OLAPLEX Broad Spectrum Chelating Treatment before I do their highlights. This would be to avoid uneven lightening and potentially dangerous chemical reactions from the heavy metals in the hair.
