We all know amika is admired amongst the pro community and trusted for its products’ effectiveness. But what do the clients sitting in their chairs think? How do they feel about the results, the experience, and the impact of amika on their hair?

The brand’s services and treatments are designed to transform hair without compromising texture or style, so we wanted to hear from clients directly. In today’s hot seat, we’re talking all about a client’s actual experience with amika’s pro smooth over frizz-fighting treatment.

Our senior digital producer treated her friend Maddie to a pre-marathon pamper day, the best opportunity to put the amika pro smooth over service to the test. Maddie was been preparing for her first-ever marathon – one of those milestones where you definitely want to have great hair. After all, who wants frizzy hair in their just-crossed-the-finish-line photo?

Maddie visited amika-certified stylist Brooke Salazar at @bossshearssalon in Tuscon, Arizona for her first-ever smooth over treatment, where she learned all about the formulation and process. The Tease then asked her all the questions to get to know what she really thinks. Read on to hear the smooth over treatment from a client’s POV.

The Tease: Can you tell us about your hair type and any concerns you had before this service? Was this your first time trying a professional hair treatment?

Maddie: My hair is naturally wavy, but it tends to get extremely frizzy no matter how I style it– whether I let it air-dry or use a blow dryer. This was my first ever professional hair treatment and before the pro smooth over service, managing the frizz was always a challenge, so I would end up wearing it up since I did not always want to spend the time styling it.

What inspired you to try the pro smooth over service?

Maddie: With my busy lifestyle, I wanted a solution to reduce frizz so I could easily air-dry my hair and wear it naturally every day. I don’t have time for constant styling, but I was tired of always throwing my hair up just to manage the frizz. Living in Arizona, where the weather makes frizz a day-to-day occurrence, I knew I needed something to help.

What were your expectations going into this service?

Maddie: I wanted to reduce frizz and keep my hair smooth with minimal styling. With my marathon approaching, I needed something that could withstand the race and make my hair one less thing to worry about.

How did your amika pro smooth over certified stylist, @brookesalazarhair, prepare you for this service?

Maddie: Brooke walked through each step of the process, explaining exactly which products and techniques she would use. She then went over the intended results and shared some experiences of other clients who had received the treatment. I felt like everything was clearly explained, and since this was my first time treating my hair, she made me feel confident that there was nothing to worry about and that this was a healthy choice for my hair.

Do you think your stylist being amika pro smooth over certified made you feel more at ease and confident with the service?

Maddie: Absolutely! She shared that she had demonstrated and taught the process many times, even demoing on a large scale at trade shows. It definitely put me at ease that my hair was being taken care of!

How did your hair feel and look after the service?

Maddie: Amazing! My hair was incredibly soft, silky, and frizz-free. It was much easier to work with overall. I was able to air-dry with no frizz, and when I did style it, I noticed it was a lot easier and took less time.

How have you been taking care of your hair to maintain the results at home?

Maddie: Using sulfate-free products and lots of heat protectant any time I style. Super easy, with no crazy extra steps to keep my hair just as nice.

How did this service make your marathon experience easier, both during and after?

Maddie: I loved how I could throw my hair in a ponytail and it felt sleek without the need for excessive brushing. Before the treatment, my hair would get extremely frizzy and tangled while I ran. After the marathon, I was able to take my hair out of the ponytail, skip the brush, and easily pull it into a bun. Something I would not have been able to do pre-treatment.

How long have the effects of the service lasted post-marathon?

Maddie: I’m just now starting to see the treatment fizz out (about 8 weeks later)!

Would you recommend this service to a friend? Why?

Maddie: Absolutely! I love how much easier it made my hair to manage and how confident I felt embracing my natural hair without the need for styling. I would definitely get this treatment again and I’d bring a friend along with me!
