Hair Stamps Have Officially Made a Return

01/20/2022

It’s no secret that we’ve all been feeling incredibly nostalgic these days when it comes to our hair. From space buns to zig-zag parts and even chunky highlights, we all can’t seem to get enough of the hairstyles that once dominated the early aughts. And, while we’ve all seen our fair share of interesting Y2K hair trends make a comeback, social media’s latest obsession is one that we definitely didn’t see returning anytime soon.

We hate to break it to you, but hair stamps are back — and, dare we say it, this time around they actually look quite cool. Unlike the brightly-colored, often glittery hair stamps you might have experimented with during the 2000s (r.i.p Hot Stamps), the latest rendition of the look is still bold, but a lot more refined and it already has the celebrity stamp of approval.

As it turns out, a number of favorite stars have been making a strong case for hair stamps at the moment. Just this week, Rihanna released a series of steamy pics on Instagram in which she sported edgy red and black stamped hair, to help kick off her first-ever Savage x Fenty and Fenty Beauty collaboration.

Dua Lipa has also jumped on the stamped hair bandwagon. Earlier this month, the singer shared pictures of herself on Instagram rocking platinum blonde locks imprinted with various red and green hearts.

And, yet another star who’s been vibing with the hair stamps trend is Rita Ora. The singer debuted a playful yellow heart that had been spray painted on the side of her blonde strands.

Ever the trendsetter, Megan Thee Stallion showed her love for the stamped hair look last year when she showed off a knee-grazing platinum blond wig decorated with pink and blue flowers. According to her hairstylist Kellon Deryck, he created this look by “making flower stencils in multiple sizes to use as a guide, then hand painting using Guy Tang MyDentity color.

While the stamped hair look is certainly one that makes a statement, it also has a lot of appeal given the temporary nature of the sprayed on color. It’s no wonder that the nostalgic style is already garnering a lot of interest from consumers. According to reporting from Glamour UK, British beauty retailer Justmylook has revealed that searches for “hair stamps” have massively increased by 566% overnight and that searches for “Rihanna hair” were up by 6700% by fans hoping to recreate the look. So, don’t be surprised if you see stamped hair popping up all over your Instagram feed in the coming months.
