Lizzo’s 2023 Met Gala look did Karl Lagerfeld proud. That Chanel number didn’t wear her… And the hair?! Equally iconic.
“… Creating Lizzo’s look for the Met Gala was a sensory dream. The experience itself was so full of texture and aroma, which offered the perfect combination of effortless beauty,” said her hairstylist and long-time collaborator Shelby Swain.

- “I began by prepping Lizzo’s hair for styling. I was immediately submerged in the most beautiful tropical scent and my hands were entrenched in the most supple, creamy lather of the Lush Cosmetics Avocado Co-Wash. This cleansing bar for hair is complete with the finest of oils to create perfectly cleansed, yet moisturized tresses.
- Next, I used the Lush Cosmetics Glory Conditioner and yes, it was glorious. The conditioner helped the already hydrated tresses by smoothing and adding illumination and shine.
- After washing and conditioning, Lizzo’s hair was ready for styling. I applied the Lush Cosmetics Super Milk Conditioning Hair Primer to provide a moisture boost – I now know why this product recently went viral! It is phenomenal and the vegan formula is perfect, featuring oat milk, almond milk and coconut milk!
- Next, I used a detangling hairbrush to detangle Lizzo’s hair while wet. Once the tresses were detangled and luminous, I applied the Lush Cosmetics Renee’s Shea Souffle Hair & Scalp Oil, and then began styling Lizzo’s look.
- When creating an updo, foundation is key, so every step of preparation comes together to create a flawless look. For hold, I applied the Lush Cosmetics Wig Hair Trainer to help form the foundation of a beautiful sleek updo.
- Once the base was perfectly smooth and secure, I used a curling iron to create pin curls and add volume to Lizzo’s timeless updo.
- As a last step, I used a hairbrush to smooth and eliminate fly aways and baby hairs, however I opted to create a spiked, piecey bang for Lizzo, again by applying Lush Cosmetics Wig Hair Trainer – that is certainly my favorite touch on tonight’s look!”
