Breakout “White Lotus” star Aubrey Plaza went full glamourpuss at the 2023 Met Gala with a bold cat-eye and bolder topknot. Jokes aside, this look was seriously chic.
“Working with Aubrey Plaza for the Met Gala is a dream come true, I was so happy I got to style her hair for the big night! After seeing the stunning Stella McCartney gown she was going to wear Aubrey and I immediately thought the hair should be up with some weight so we decided on a top knot.” – said celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend.
Lucky for us all, Townsend shared exactly how he created this look with his go-to Olivia Garden beauty tools. Keep scrolling for the details.
Get the Look:
- “First I started by very generally spraying a heat protectant throughout her wet hair to protect it from the heat styling tools and rough dried the hair with the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion High Performance Professional Hair Dryer.
- Next, I added mousse to her damp hair and blowdried with Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Blossom Thermal Brush. I love how much volume and fullness I can get in Aubrey’s hair with mousse and the brush helps cut drying time, which means more time for styling!
- Curtain bangs look best when they are full and not flat so when it came time to dry her new fringe, I sprayed a root lift spray throughout the bangs and blowdried with the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Blossom Thermal Brush.
- I then secured her hair in a ponytail right on top of the head and wrapped the ponytail around the base and secured it with pins.
- To add some bends to her fringe, I ran small sections through the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion High Performance Professional 1″ Flat Iron. I love that I can use this iron to create bends in the hair as well as straighten it.
- Finally, I finished the whole look by placing a Jennifer Behr black ribbon barrette at the front of the top knot, giving her a modern Audrey Hepburn look!”
