When it comes to all things hair, the Latinx community has always been a major trendsetter. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Whether it was Selena Quintanilla’s enviable natural curls, Frida Kahlo’s scarf braids, or even Jennifer Lopez’s signature bouncy blowouts, the hairstyles of our favorite Latinx stars have influenced everything from the runways to the red carpets to even the ways in which we style our hair.

That’s why it’s only right that we take some time during Latinx and Hispanic Heritage month to honor the modern-day Latinx icons who continue to inspire us with their bold hair looks. Join us as we take a walk down memory lane at some of the most unforgettable hairstyles from some of our favorite Latinx stars. Prepare to be amazed!

Amara La Negra

Amara La Negra totally shut down the red carpet at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards with her ultra-voluminous afro. At the time, the larger-than-life hairstyle became somewhat of a signature look for the Afro-Latina star.

Adrienne Bailon

Adrienne Bailon gave us everything we needed and more when she showed up to the 2019 Daytime Emmy Awards sporting a tousled blonde bob styled by her stylist Ray Christopher.

Selena Quintanilla

If there is one hairstyle that deserves to go down in red carpet history, it’s the gorgeous messy curled updo that the late Selena Quintanilla wore to accept her first-ever Grammy award for Best Mexican-American Album at the 1994 award show. This look would go on to become one of most iconic and timeless hairstyles.

The mermaid vibes were strong with Shakira at the 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards. We’re dying over her beautiful loose waves.

Sofia Carson

Sofia Carson made quite the grand entrance at the Golden Globes in 2020. Her pink tulle Giabattista Valli gown looked like something out of a fairytale and her hair was equally as dreamy. We are living for the deep side part and old Hollywood waves that her hairstylist Caile Noble styled on her lob.

Becky G

Becky G looked oh so fierce at the Premios Juventud 2021 rocking slicked-back strands and a long braided ponytail that came courtesy of her hairstylist Tyx

It was hard not to totally swoon over Maluma’s Met Gala debut back in 2019. The Columbian singer turned heads on the red carpet with platinum silver dyed buzzcut that complemented his sparkly tuxedo.

Cardi B

Cardi B’s hairstyles are the stuff of legends. From pink heart-shaped pigtails to a Louis Vuitton-printed ponytail, the singer never fails to serve an iconic hair look. Easily one of our favorite hairstyles that she’s worn is this epic, floor-grazing braided ponytail that has colorful bandanas woven throughout.

Karol G

Karol G gave us all quite the monochromatic moment when she showed up to the 2021 Billboard Music Awards sporting sleek turquoise strands that perfectly matched her sparkly sheer gown.

Camila Cabello

Camilla Cabello totally looked the part of a modern-day princess when attended the premiere for her latest film, Cinderella. Her butt-length, low ponytail and those perfectly swirled baby hairs were nothing short of magical.

Zoe Saldana

Back in 2019, Zoe Saldana arrived at the Met Gala looking like a ‘70s disco dream sporting voluminous natural curls accented by a face-framing purple orchid. This eye-catching look came courtesy of hairstylist Chris McMillan.

America Ferrara

America Ferrara left us all speechless when she arrived at the 2020 Oscars sporting sleek strands and a gorgeous golden headpiece. According to hair hairstylist Aviva Perea, her beautiful hair look—particularly her headband—was “a homage to her people, the indigenous Lenca tribe of Honduras.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez totally slayed the red carpet at the 2018 Met Gala with some help from her hairstylist Lorenzo Martin, who styled the coolest slicked-back lob to complement her gem-encrusted Balmain dress.

Camila Mendes

Camila Mendes brought big bow energy to the 2019 Met Gala red carpet sporting a sleek and polished ponytail that featured a pretty blue ribbon woven throughout and tied in the most perfect bow. The princess-worthy look was the work of hairstylist Matthew Collins.

Selena Gomez

Everytime Selena Gomez has gone blonde has been nothing short of iconic, but the time she debuted an icy blonde lob at the 2017 American Music Award  is a particularly stand-out moment. The hair mastermind behind her new hue was none other than Nine Zero One colorist Nikki Lee.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato looked stunning as ever at the 2015 MTV VMA’s rocking a sleek, wet-look bob.

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek couldn’t help but turn heads at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival with her candy-colored pink locks that came courtesy of celebrity colorist Aura Friedman. With some help from hairstylist Jennifer Yepez, her strands were styled with some loose, retro waves.
