Quiet luxury is a style rooted in neutral color schemes, tasteful tailoring and trend-free minimalism. At the forefront of this aesthetic is Proenza Schouler, a brand known for its chic and modern, yet consistently functional pieces. This season’s Fall 2024 show was no different, and designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez delivered elegance and style free of any fashion gimmicks.
To accompany the label’s runway show, which took place at the Chelsea Factory in Manhattan, lead hairstylist Guido Palau used Bumble and bumble products to create hair looks that embodied the highly coveted “stealth wealth” aesthetic. The Tease spoke with Palau backstage at the show, and he gave us a rundown on the inspiration behind the styles, as well as how they were executed.
Palau explained that although the hair looks were meant to feel natural and effortless, they were far from simple or lacking in intentionality. “Blowing out, putting a natural parting, and then putting a little bit of movement back in,” Palau explained of his technique, “You get that feeling that it’s real, but it has a little bit more quality”.
Palau also discussed how there was no one designated hairstyle, rather the team focused more on creating looks that felt generally cohesive but ultimately still natural. “Some girls have a side part, they’ve got short hair so it’s a little bit more boyish. On top, behind the ears. The textured hair we are leaving. Some we’re pulling back. There’s a lot of shorter textured hair which we’re just enhancing the texture a little bit,” he said.
Get the Look:
- To start, hair is dampened with Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer to give heat protection, reduce frizz, and add softness as the beginning of the hairstyling process. Then, hair is blow dried with a side part placed naturally using fingers. A curling iron is then used to create a slight bend in the models’ hair. Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray Light is used to enhance the texture of the hair, creating light, airy movement.
- A few models’ hair were gathered at the nape of the neck into a bound ponytail.
- Finally, Spray de Mode Hairspray is then spritzed onto hair for a light flexible hold.
Pro Tip: Spritz Spray de Mode into hands and run it through hair to remove fly-aways.
