Lil Nas X’s “Montero” Wigs Are a Candy-Colored Dream

03/26/2021

Lil Nas X just dropped the music video of his highly-anticipated track “Montero (Call Me By Your Name) ” and its epic visuals have truly sent the internet into a tailspin.

Unapologetically queer from start to finish, the video sees the rapper try out several different historical and mythological alter-egos while in the candy-colored fantasyland known as Montero — a reference to his birth name, Montero Lamar Hill. In this dreamy world, the biblical references are plenty. Over the course of the 3-minute masterpiece, Lil Nas X is tempted into a make-out sesh with his snake alter-ego and later descends from heaven into hell via stripper pole to give the devil a very provocative lap dance.

No doubt an absolute banger, the star is hopeful that the song and its video will have a positive impact on queer folx. Prior to the video’s release, the rapper penned a heartfelt letter to his younger self on Instagram writing, “I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.”

While there’s so much to love about the video, a definite highlight for us was definitely the hair. The rapper slayed an assortment of colorful wigs on screen that came courtesy of wig genius Evanie Frausto and hair artist Samantha Lepre.

Take a look at Lil Nas X’s gloriously extra music video above and then feast your eyes on all the mesmerizing hair moments below.
