Parker Posey’s very obviously vintage-inspired hairstyle at the 2026 Actor Awards was among the evening’s most standout looks. The exaggerated shape and effortless movement by celebrity hairstylist Jason Rail needs to be studied, honestly.
The best we could do was get him to breakdown the look in painstaking detail.
Rail tells The Tease, “The hair was ‘done but not over.’ Parker likes to touch her hair so the style usually has to be pliable.” He adds, “It’s an update on the classic ‘set’ hairstyles.”
Scroll for the techniques Rail used to get this instantly iconic look.
Get the Look:
- “Shampoo hair at roots only. A tiny bit of conditioner on ends only.
- Blow dry using some root lift/volume spray. I like the one from RŌZ. I rough dry after product then go in for small-ish sections with a Denman brush, then finally a big round brush to give a bend at the ends.
- I use a 1” in circumference curling iron. I use texturizing spray on each section prior to curling. I do an onion set formation. I use clips to hold the curls while they are cooling off.
- I backcomb with a bit of hairspray for each section. Once it’s all teased I put my fingers in and shake it up a bit and see what direction the curls are going in.
- I use a Mason Pearson brush to smooth it out, then I use my fingers to scrunch it up and the a dusting of more hairspray. And voila, a modern take on a classic set hairdo.”
